Science Badges

In class, we are doing Science Badges.

Before we started we got a little book and we could choose Advanced, Explorer or these pieces of paper that have activities. This was one of the things we had to do in the advanced book.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari

Soon the year 5s and 6s have a camp and we are going to Sanctuary Mountain and we are doing a lot of research about this Mountain so we know what everything is. 

Maths Grid Results

This is my Term 4 Maths grid.

Every week we do a maths grid and when we do a maths grid we have 6 minutes to

get 100 out of 100. 

Production Highlights

On Tuesday 24th we had a Production about Captain Cook suddenly time traveling to 2019 and seeing all the plastic and what we have done to our ocean and it was also about our ancestors that were navigators like Maui, Paikea, Paoa & Kiwa and Kupe.

Production (Sneak Peek)

Soon we will be having a Production. Every day we practice and today the Gisborne Herald came to take some seek peek photos to put in the newspaper. The Production is on the 24th of September. What you don't see is all the hard work and effort that gets put into the Production.

 

Bruce Potter Visit

On Friday Bruce Potter came to our school and Bruce Potter is a book Illustrator and an Author and he did a book called the Doodle Bug and when he came he did a drawing and it was an Elephant mixed with an ape and with a dinosaur and more. Bruce Potter is an Opera Singer, Book Writer, Illustrator and 3rd-time weight lifter.

Ki-O-Rahi

Every Friday we have Fun Friday and we do activities one of them is CrackerJack and we always have someone come and teach us Ki-O-Rahi and last Friday we had a game of Ki-O-Rahi and it was kinda complicated but it was also fun. There are two teams one team is defending and the other team has to get trys.

The Whale Rider

A few weeks ago we started reading the whale rider.

We are only about halfway in the book and we also had to answer some

questions about the book. 

Term 3 Math Grid

This is my Term 3 Math Grid.

Each week we do a Math grid and we have to try to get 100 out of 100 

in 6 minutes.

Term 3 Goals

This is my Goals for Term 3.

Every Monday we do Goals of the week and each week our Teacher gives us a quote 

and we have to write about it but first, we get into groups of four and we talk 

about what we think the quote.

The Survivor Questions

This guy called David Hill wrote a play  from the future and we have started practising the play. Mrs Hall gave us some questions that we needed to answer and they were all about the play. When we started the play we didn't know what it was about so we also have to find what the play is about.

Those Poor Poor Birds

This is what we are learning in our class, we got this we also had a letter and it said that they were cleaning their house because their grandmother passed away and then they found a box that had a brooch

Did the film communicate the script?

I think we did communicate the script because we could understand it.

Did it communicate the rising emotion being portrayed?
I think we had a bit of emotion but we should do a bit more.

What could you shoot differently?

If I could shoot anything I would make sure we all know our

lines and what we have to say.

What would make your film more understandable?
To say more things about the brooch and the Duke of York.

What would give your film more emotional impact?
Add some dramatic music.

Star Sign

A few weeks ago we started some art of our zodiac signs my sign is Cancer the crab.

We did this because we are learning about navigation and we are also learning about Captain James Cook and how he used the stars to find some land. 

Year 6s Spoken Word Poems

Friday Program.

For Friday program we have activities and the year 6s activities are

Science, Cracker Jacks and Drama and with drama we did 
a poem and we had a few subjects to write about and choose from
and my group did wastage.

Animal and Object

A couple of days ago we did this project where we had to choose a piece of paper and we would either have an Animal or an Object. Once we got our pieces of we had to research What it was used for and What it was made out of. I got an object and my object was Floor rugs and my partners got an Animal and his animal was a Tiger.

Wild Lab

Today we went to the Wild Lab.
We were learning about Nature and we were also learning about these birds call Oi's. When Oi's are born they leave their mother when they are about 3 months old and they have to survive all on their own. To get their food they have to dive down into the sea to get food and they mostly eat squids. Oi's make their nests underground

At the Wild lab the people that run it they made a few challenges and we had a special call that was the noise that Oi's make. The first thing we did was explore around the area and we came to these trees that look like they are touching each other but they always have a small gap between them. We played a little game of hide and seek. We walked up a hill and when we got up to the top there was a bird at the bottom of the front area of the buildings and it was calling to us and we were doing our call back and when we got back down the bird was still there and when the bird came to all of us and we all touched the birds beak and we took a picture with it. The second thing we did was we started the challenges the first challenge we did was this obstacle course. The last thing we did was make a little hut in the trees and the bushes most groups didn't finish in time because we only had  15-20 minute time limit the people in my group were Paitin and Isabella and we didn't finish our hut either.

Term 2 Goal of the Week

This is my goals.
Each week on Monday we do a quote of the week and for the quote of the week
our teacher gives us a quote that we have to write about.

Eels Dissections

Last week we did eel dissection and since we did the eel dissections we had to make a 

drawing and put photos of the eels and put arrows to point to the

stuff on the outside and the inside. 

Cyber smart Relationships Writing a quality blog comment

We have been learning about cyber smart and how to make a positive comment so that 

we don't hurt peoples feelings. 

Eels Slideshow - Kendra

We have been making Hinaki traps in groups for camp and on Thursday we had 

an interesting visit from Mr Farmer about eels, eeling 

and Hinaki traps.

How can you spot a rip?

On Tuesday we did this poster because we went to the beach so that we could  

learn about rips and what rips look like so we made a poster called 

"How can you spot a rip"  

Writing border

This is my writing border for 2019. My class made these writing borders so 

that other people can read and have a look at what 

we have put up there and what we have been doing.

My Goals for Term 1

These are my goals for 2019 for Term 1.

For our goals every week we get a quote and then we get into groups then we talk about the

quote then one person from each group gets picked to go up the front and shares what

their group talked about. 

2018 is over and here comes 2019

2018 is over and 2019 is here! these are a few photos of what we did last year. As a year 6, we have to remember to be a leader and be proud. To me being a year 6 is a bit scary because you have to have a lot of responsibility.
